The Delta State Alumni Association has recently participated in each of Delta State University’s orientation sessions. For each session, the Alumni Association brought back successful alumnus to speak to the parents of incoming students of Delta State.

Speakers at freshman orientation sessions included: Sayward Fortner ’04, treasurer of the National Alumni Association Board of Directors, session one; Michael Aguzzi ’97, past National Alumni Association Board member, session two; and Libbi Logan ’99, Bolivar County alumni chapter committee member, session three.

Each alum spoke about his or her time at Delta State and encouraged parents to get involved with the Alumni Association, purchase their student a Delta State car tag, and attend this year’s events which include Pig Pickin’ scheduled for Sept. 28 and Homecoming set for Nov. 1.

Parents were also informed about the Student Alumni Association (SAA), a group that bridges the gap between students and alumni, and were given information on how their student can join. The SAA’s biggest fundraiser each year is the Student Survival Kit, a kit parents can purchase for their child during finals week. Also during the presentations, the speakers recognized any parents who are alumni of Delta State.
