The Delta State University Alumni Association recently traveled to New York City to participate in the 34th Annual Mississippi Picnic. The event was held Saturday, June 8, in Central Park from noon to 6 p.m. This year’s theme was “Celebrating the Mississippi Country Music Trail,” and the featured guest was Governor William Winter. Governor Phil Bryant was in attendance and brought greetings from Mississippi to the crowd.

In true Mississippi fashion, the menu featured fried catfish, cole slaw, fries, hush puppies, caramel cake and sweet tea. Music was provided by several talented Mississippians including Delta State alumna Liz Davis, who was a finalist on NBC’s The Voice. This year’s Picnic was dedicated to the memory of Kay McDuffie, one of the founders of the Mississippi Picnic who passed away on November 20, 2012.
