Delta State President William N. LaForge recently met with incoming freshman and valedictorian of Porters Chapel Academy’s graduating class, Katie Ann Locke, at the Vicksburg Rotary Club Meeting.

Locke was also featured on the Delta State University Facebook page. As a future Delta Music Institute student, she showcased her talent as she sang an original song during the commencement ceremony at Porters Chapel.

LaForge also met Delta State alumni Patrick House. The former football player was the winner of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” Season 10 and began the Lean On Me health and wellness initiative targeting elementary and middle school aged children.

The importance of student recruitment and alumni relations are recognized at Delta State, and LaForge plans to continue to lead the University in strengthening those areas.

The president spoke to the Rotary Club in Vicksburg and received a welcoming gift from the organization. Executive Director of Alumni-Foundation Keith Fulcher was also in attendance. LaForge announced to the Rotarians that Delta State University will celebrate its 90th anniversary next year.

“Our primary mission is to contribute to the Delta counties and communities. For every first generation graduate we send out, we can help lift an entire family out of poverty,” said LaForge.

LaForge reminded listeners that Delta State has implemented flat-rate tuition that will allow out-of-state students to enroll with no additional fees. This provides the opportunity for Delta State to further enhance its leading diversity figures and broaden student recruitment efforts.
