The Delta State University Alumni Association will host the 13th annual “Ole” Grad Reunion August 2-4 at Lake Tiak O’Khata. This year’s theme will be a “50’s Sock Hop,” and attendees are encouraged to dress in their best look from the 50’s on Saturday night.

The “Ole” Grad Reunion is one of the Alumni Association’s most popular events, and alumni come from all over the state each year to the reunion. “Ole” grads are alumni of Delta State University who are in the Golden Circle – which is a prestigious group of alums that graduated 50 years or more ago. Invitations were also mailed to graduates who are five years or less away from being inducted into the Golden Circle.

Dr. Wayne Lee, a 1957 graduate of Delta State College and a professor in Delta State’s HPER department, remembers how the “Ole” Grad Reunion was formed.

“Several ‘Ole’ Delta State grads met at Homecoming in 2000 at the Country Platter in Cleveland and the ‘Ole’ Grad Reunion was born,” said Lee. “Meeting ‘Ole’ Delta State graduates and friends each year at our reunion keeps the die-hard supporters in touch with each other and creates a special bond that cements a relationship beyond description. “The Delta State grads attending our annual reunions dearly love Delta State University for many reasons – not the least being Delta State gave each ‘Ole’ grad a feeling of belonging to a special group and a real and competitive chance in life. We urge all ‘Ole’ Delta State graduates, far and wide, to make plans to attend the 13th annual ‘Ole’ Grad Reunion at Lake Tiak O’Khata near Louisville on August 2-4.”

The reunion starts Friday, August 2, with registration from 5- 5:30 p.m.  and dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, the silent auction is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The social will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the announcement of the silent auction winners, the costume contest, and a planning session for next year’s reunion. The prime rib dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. The cost per person is $25 per night. Proceeds from the silent auction will go to the Anniversary Scholarship.
