Hilpert looks on.

Deborah Moore, Director of the Center for Community and Economic Development at Delta State University, was recently recognized by the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL), as in its regular monthly meeting, the Board honored African-American educators from each of the universities in recognition of February as Black History Month.

Moore was promoted to the director’s post this past July, and has worked tirelessly and diligently to promote the Center’s many various programs, which include America Reads Mississippi, Delta Reads Partnership, Mississippi Delta Service Corps, AmeriCorps*VISTA, Delta Rural Poll and the Institute for Community-Based Research.

First established in 1994, the Center for Community and Economic Development at Delta State has partnered to present Delta Health and Wellness Day for the past two years, while also providing a leadership role in Cleveland’s annual multiple sclerosis walk. Most recently, the CCED hosted an open house for Delta area mayors, enabling the local government officials to know what resources are available to their respective communities.

Moore’s association with the Center first began in 1998 as a program coordinator. She climbed to program leader/state director in January 2000 and later was promoted to project director in October 2003, where she would stay until her most recent advancement.

A graduate of Delta State, Moore earned her bachelor’s degree in 1981 and master’s degree in 1996, both in business administration. A Cleveland native, Moore is married to Dr. Billy C. Moore, Dean of the College of Business at Delta State. The couple has two daughters, Andrea and Alicia.
