Collier Parker, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Delta State University, has been selected to be the 2009 artist for the upcoming Viking Classic PGA Tournament which starts on Thursday at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison.

Parker will be on site at the tournament and will compose a painting of the event which will hang in Viking’s permanent collection. The painting will be reproduced as a print and sold to support the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital at the University Medical Center in Jackson.

“Viking strongly supports the arts…and sees the visual arts and culinary arts as an integral part of this world class sporting event,” said Carol Puckett, president of the Viking Hospitality Group. “We’re thrilled to have a painter of Collier’s caliber as our 2009 Viking Classic Artist. Not only is he an acclaimed artist, he represents Viking’s deep Delta roots and the strong connection between Viking Range and Delta State.”

“It is indeed an honor to be selected by Viking Range as the Viking Classic artist this year,” said Parker. “Viking’s inclusion of the visual and culinary arts as a part of this event is unique among professional tournaments. The fact that the proceeds from this painting go to support the Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital demonstrates Viking’s commitment to the community and I’m proud to be a part of that.”
