Virgil Redd (now deceased) was a navigator during the August 6, 1945 nuclear bombing of Hiroshima, Japan.  The bomb was dropped by the Enola Gay, a U.S. Air Force B-29 and Mr. Redd took photos of the planes, a ship, and the devastation to the city.  The photos were donated by his brother, Vester Redd.
