The history begins with Edward Joseph Nott born in 1868 in Illinois, who married Maude Alice Gray, who was born in Minnesota but moved to Illinois as a young girl. The couple moved to Cleveland in 1902 where he and H.M. Ward established the Nott and Ward Lumber Company and Contractors. The couple were parents to five daughters.
