Biographical/Historical Note:

Ivy Graham Hill was born in Abbeville, Lafayette County, Mississippi.  She taught school in Dundee, Mississippi in the 1890’s and married Edward Bill Hill of Memphis, Tennessee ca. 1895. Early settlers of Cleveland, Mississippi, they moved there in 1895. The couple owned extensive property in the downtown area of Cleveland (the Hill Building at the corner of Sharp and North) and when he died in 1915, she began managing their considerable property. She was a teacher, businesswoman, author, civic leader, parliamentarian, and post-mistress (ca. 1932-1945).

Two children were born to Edward Hill, Myrtle “Mimi” and William Kenan.  Mimi was born in 1900 and died in 1982. She attended Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi, and married Napoleon LePoint Cassibry (Nap).  Cassibry was a graduate of the University of Mississippi Law School and had commanded Co. G, 104th Ammunition Train, 29th Division of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I.  He trained at Camp Beauregard in Louisiana and reached captain.  He came to Cleveland in 1917, and after the war went to work at the Cleveland State Bank, of which he eventually became president.

Mimi and Nap Cassibry had three children, LePoint, Graham, and Napoleon. Graham served in the European theater during World War II as a lieutenant in the artillery. He died in 1964. LePoint married Warwick Vosper Smith in 1944. Napoleon married Martha June Carley.
