Scope and Content:

The Harry Williams Family History Collection is a collection of random selections of the Cleveland, Bolivar County newspapers beginning 1899 through 1904 that contains information about the Harry Williams Family.  Harry Pelham Williams and his brother Burch came from Tate County, MS to Bolivar County, MS.  Harry managed over 3,000 acres of cotton land for Mr. Pearman.  He married Willie Elizabeth Metcalf and had two children, Charlie Bob, who died at age 2, and daughter Perla.  Harry was shot and killed in Cleveland in 1904.  His wife died in 1920 and they are buried in the Old Cleveland Cemetery.  Included in the collection are photocopies of several photos and a brief historical overview of the Cleveland area at the time.  This information was provided by Harry Williams Branton, the grandson of Harry Pelham Williams
