Scope and Content:
The Ann Bishop Ruscoe Collection contains scrapbooks of her father, F.W. “Wattie” Bishop Sr. who was Mayor of the City of Cleveland, Mississippi from 1951 until 1969. The scrapbooks, made up largely of clippings and photos, mark the population and business growth of Cleveland during his reign as mayor. It also contains a 1955 City Directory of Cleveland citizens and businesses, and includes photographs of many of the businesses. Also included is a booklet “How Cleveland Grew” which was published locally in 1950 and contains early histories about many of Cleveland’s businesses. The collection contains the handwritten memories of Ann Bishop Ruscoe about the Hill Demonstration School that she attended in 1929, as well as, a 1932-33 Hill Demonstration Year Book, a 1933 Hill Demonstration School Class Group Photo with names of students, a 1935 Hill Demonstration School 6th grade graduation diploma, a Hill Demonstration play and a handmade book that belonged to Ann Bishop Ruscoe.
