The Delta State University Department of Art will host an exclusive event featuring an advance screening of episode one from “Art:21- Art in the 21st Century’s” seventh season on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in Holcombe-Norwood Annex 151 on campus.

“Art:21” is a Peabody Award-winning documentary series on Public Broadcasting that partners with organizations worldwide to host events. The seventh season will air nationwide on PBS Oct. 24 at 10 p.m. EST. The season profiles 12 artists who reveal how art can inspire and transform lives and communities.

The exclusive screening at Delta State is just one of the many “Art:21” screenings on an international scale because of “Art:21” Access ’14. Access ’14 is an international free screening initiative created to increase knowledge of contemporary art, spark dialogue and inspire creative thinking through hundreds of public screenings and events.

Museums, schools, libraries, art spaces, community centers and universities worldwide host the screenings. Each event features the exclusive advance of one-to-four episodes from season seven.

Episode one is titled “Investigation,” featuring artists using their practices as tools for personal and intellectual discovery, simultaneously documenting and producing new realities in the process. Highlighted artists include Thomas Hirschhorn, Graciela Iturbide and Leonardo Drew.

Delta State will also host a screening of the show’s third episode, “Legacy,” on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., also in Holcombe-Norwood Annex 151. Artists in this episode use life experiences and family heritage to explore new aesthetic terrain. Featured artists include Wolfgang Laib, Tania Bruguera and Abraham Cruxvillegas.

“Art:21” Access ’14 events are presented in partnership with Americans for the Arts, the YMCA and the National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture. An updated list of  Access ’14 events and venues worldwide can be found at www.art21.org/access.
