The Avett Brothers release their ninth album True Sadness on June 24, 2016. Over the past 16 years, over three thousand shows, eight albums, and hundreds of thousands of miles later—somewhere along the way, the line between the pursuit of music and what The Avett Brothers recognized as their daily lives faded, then evaporated altogether, and their songs have become increasingly reflective in their nature—open, honest, and to some extent, autobiographical.
The Avett Brothers’ narrative folk-rock tells bigger stories about what it means to be Southern, to be American, to be alive.
