The Delta State University Alumni Association recently traveled to Southaven for the ninth annual Desoto County Alumni Event. This year’s gathering was held Aug. 9 at the BankPlus Training Center. With over 100 alumni and friends in attendance, the event was another success for the chapter.

One of the signature pieces of the Desoto County Alumni Event is the silent auction each year. All proceeds from the auction go to the Desoto County Scholarship, which is awarded to incoming freshman at Delta State from the area. This year’s recipients are Brittany McClendon (Hernando High School) and Tanner Lloyd (Lewisburg High School).

The program featured Delta State President William N. LaForge who gave the crowd an update on the state of the university. Each year, the chapter chooses to recognize an area of campus, and this year, the Delta State Art Department was featured.

Dr. David Breaux, the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Ron Koehler, chair of the Art Department, both spoke about the program.

A campus update was given by Director of Alumni Affairs Jeffrey Farris. There were also a number of Delta State faculty and staff in attendance, including: Keith Fulcher, executive director of the Alumni-Foundation; Gary Bouse, Chief Development Officer; Ann Giger, director of Donor Relations; Angela Carer, admissions recruiter; Chris Gaines, director of Recruiting; Craig Roden, head women’s basketball coach; Ronnie Mayers, Athletic Director; Leslie Griffin, dean of the College of Education and Health Sciences; and Clifton Wingard chair of the Department of Mathematics.

Sponsors of the event included: State Farm Agents Stephanie Morrison and Ryan England, Sycamore Bank, Community Bank, Renasant Bank, Bancorp South, BankPlus, Grapevine Liquor & Wine, A&B Distributors and Williams, Pitts & Beard, PLLC.
