By February 19, 2010General

Despite the tough economic climate, Delta State is forging ahead to find additional revenue sources. And the efforts are paying off. Delta State will receive $2.85 million in federal dollars this year as part of its federal relations efforts.

Dr. Michelle Roberts, Vice President of University Relations at Delta State, announced that four programs will receive federal fundingin 2010: School of Nursing, Biological and Physical Sciences, Delta Music Institute, and Statesman Boulevard.

“I appreciate the hard work and creative proposals that these departments put together last year. It makes my job easier in selling projects to our congressional offices when we have so many wonderful ideas being generated by our faculty and staff. It is refreshing to see the efforts recognized,” said Roberts.

Dr. Barry Campbell, chair of the Division of Biological and Physical Sciences, was pleased with the news and excited about the benefits the added funding will provide for the students in his division.

"These are exciting times for students and faculty in the sciences at Delta State,” said Campbell. “The dollars that we are receiving, as a result of the combined efforts of the university and our congressional partners, are an important investment in the future of the people that we serve. This funding will allow us to continue to move forward in providing our students with an outstanding educational experience."

“We are very grateful for the support we have received from our congressional leaders, particularly Senator Thad Cochran and his staff,” added Roberts.”They have been incredibly supportive of our efforts and we appreciate everything they have done and continue to do for Delta State and Mississippi. We are currently in the process of collecting proposals for next year, and I am hopeful that we will continue to be successful in obtaining additional federal funds for Delta State “
