The Delta State University Office of Communications and Marketing has officially extended Delta State University’s online presence to the world of social media. Delta State’s Twitter stream was recently added to The Chronicle of Higher Education’s “Top Universities & Colleges To Follow” list. To date, only 51 other colleges/universities have been added to this list with Delta State and Mississippi State being the only two Mississippi institutions. To be included on this list, one must be recommended by either The Chronicle of Higher Education or other followers on Twitter.
A large number of Mississippi based media networks use Delta State’s Twitter stream www.twitter.com/deltastate to monitor campus events and to broadcast those events to their followers and networks. Other available information includes:
· News and Events – Every campus event posted to the Delta State calendar of eventsand all news releases are automatically submitted to Twitter and made public not only to those that follow Delta State on Twitter, but also to millions of other Twitter users.
· Emergency Campus Information – Inclement weather updates and campus alerts are also published on Twitter as an alternative means to reach our campus community.
· Re-tweets – Any pertinent information shared with Delta State via Twitter is then re-shared with those following Delta State.
The official Delta State Facebook fan page www.facebook.com/deltastateuniversity is another great source of information. Currently Delta State boasts a fan base of over 1,500, which has grown by over 400 in the last two months. Directly from Facebook, fans can:
· Give back to Delta State by making a gift or donation directly from the Facebook page
· Direct access to more information about the University
· Be updated with the latest news, events, and happenings on campus.
· Keep track of information related to the Delta Diplomats, a student recruiting organization, via their official blog
· View photos from campus events
· View all official Delta State commercials as televised along with program information
· View special messages and reminders
· Receive inclement weather updates and campus alerts.
