Anything Goes ports at the BPAC

Broadway's "Anything Goes" delighted the Bologna Center for Performing Arts crowd on Tuesday.

The Bologna Performing Arts Center audience traveled aboard the S.S. American with its captain and crew on Tuesday.

“Anything Goes” is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where Reno Sweeney (Emma Stratton) is en route from New York to England. Reno is a nightclub singer/evangelist and along the journey, her friend Billy Crocker (Brian Krinsky) stows away from Wall Street to be closer to his true love, Hope Harcourt. The ship takes a spin as Billy learns that Hope is engaged to a wealthy man named Lord Evelyn Oakleigh (Richard Lindenfelzer).

Love also seems to travel its way to other passengers on board like Moonface Martin (Dennis Setteducati) and his sidekick in crime Erma (Mychal Phillips). With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap dancing sailors and good old fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

“Anything Goes” was presented by NETworks Presentations LLC and based on the Roundabout Theatre Company Production as part of the national tour of the 2011 Tony Award-winning production on Broadway. Musical numbers included “I Get a Kick Out of You,” “Bon Voyage,” “Anything Goes,” “Blow Gabriel, Blow,” and “Buddie, Beware.” The music and lyrics were written by Cole Porter.

The BPAC’s tech crew started preparations for the show at 8 a.m., which included unloading three semi-trucks full of props and set pieces. After eight hours of setting up backdrops, lights and sound, the BPAC was ready to take sail.

The next main stage show at the BPAC will be Popovich Comedy Pet Theatre on Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. For more information or to reserve tickets, call the ticket office at 662-846-4626 or visit www.bolognapac.com.
