DSU McNair Scholars Attend the 2019 Florida International University McNair Scholars Research Conference

On Oct. 18-19, the McNair Scholars at Delta State University attended the 2019 Florida International University McNair Scholars Research Conference in Miami, Fla. This two-day event allowed scholars to gain access to several professional development opportunities, such as graduate school panels, informative workshops on post-graduate studies, discussing research with scholars from around the country, and presenting their own research.

The following provides the title of each scholar’s research and faculty mentor:

Stevena King: “What Are the Developmental Delays in Children Whose Mothers Took Prenatal Vitamins During the Pregnancy Term?”
Mentor: Nakikke Wallace-Johnson, director of career services and placement, Delta State

Georgian Alexander: “The Prevalence of Sexual Harassment Toward Male and Female Employees and Evaluate the Reports to Management by Employees Who Have Been Sexually Harassed at Work”
Mentor: Dr. Tomeka Harbin, chair of the Division of Marketing, Management, and Business Administration, Delta State

Jalen Carney: “Understanding Resiliency in Student Veterans and Non-Veteran Students in the Mississippi Delta: A Pilot Study”
Mentor: Dr. Natasha Barnes, assistant professor of counselor education, Delta State

Denicia Diew: “Depletion of Macrophages with Clodronate Partially Reduces the Progression of Renal Injury in Obese Dahl Salt Sensitive Rats During Prepubertal Obesity”
Mentor: Dr. Jan Michael Williams, associate professor, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, University of Mississippi Medical Center
