Fireside Chat – September 10, 2018 – 93rd Anniversary

By September 10, 2018President

President LaForge is joined by Dr. Rose Strahan, a member of the Dedicated Statesmen Association and former professor and chair of the math department at Delta State, to discuss plans for celebrating the university’s upcoming anniversary.

On Tuesday, September 18, members of the Delta State family will come together to celebrate the university’s 93rd anniversary. Three years ago, we began hosting annual anniversary celebrations, and we will continue to do so as we prepare for the centennial celebration in 2025. Each year’s celebration has focused on a specific decade of the university’s history, and this year’s events will highlight the 1950s.

This event is spearheaded by Emily Jones, the University Archivist, and members of the Dedicated Statesmen Association. The DSA is comprised of around 20 active members who are highly motivated retired faculty and staff who want to promote the home of their beloved Statesmen and Fighting Okra.

In other news on campus, the 28th Annual Rice Tasting Luncheon is set for Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum. Since Bolivar County is the largest rice producing county in MS, this event is a way to say thank you to our rice farmers and all those who serve in the rice industry.
