Second annual Passport to Success scheduled for April 10

The Delta State University National Alumni Association and Delta State Career Services will feature the second annual Passport To Success event April 10 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the H.L. Nowell Student Union East Lobby on the second floor.

The program will prep Delta State students as they enter their careers with confidence, while maintaining a strong professional social media presence.

All current Delta State students will have the opportunity to create a LinkedIn professional profile, receive résumé building development, take a professional head shot photo, learn about best practices for searching for jobs, and professional attire recommendations.

“The National Alumni Association is in the business to develop partnerships,” said Jeffrey Farris, Alumni director. “Through the leadership of our National Alumni Association Board of Directors, we are excited to partner with Career Services at Delta State for the second annual Passport to Success.”

The event will be open to undergraduate and graduate students. Multiple stations along with Alumni Association and Career Services staff will be on site to assist the students through the process.

“With the growing number of users on the professional social media platform LinkedIn, we are seeing more and more students gain exposure and leads to career opportunities,” said Nakikke Johnson, student relations specialist for Career Services. “These days, a foot in the door may actually start online. It is important for these students to recognize this trend.”

As a special incentive, students who participate in each station will be entered into a drawing for special prizes donated by the National Alumni Association and Career Services. Following the event, students who met specific criteria on their LinkedIn pages will be eligible for one of two $500 scholarships provided by the National Alumni Association.
