Fireside Chat – April 30, 2018 – Upcoming Alumni Events

President LaForge is joined by Jeffrey Farris, director of Alumni Affairs at Delta State.

The Delta State Alumni Association has been busy planning events for Statesmen Nation. This Thursday, they will host the Bolivar County Alumni Crawfish Boil, which is always a fun time for food, music, and community. Each year, a silent auction is held to raise money for the Liza Vaughn Memorial Scholarship for incoming Delta State students from Bolivar County. The scholarship was named for former assistant alumni director Liza Vaughn who passed away in April of 2012.

This summer, our Alumni Association will participate in Atlanta’s Mississippi in the Park, which is hosted by the Mississippi Society of Georgia. That group’s mission is to promote the cultural, academic, business, and economic development opportunities between Georgia and Mississippi. One of their purposes is to support the annual Mississippi in the Park event and provide an opportunity for fellow Mississippians to reunite and network personally and professionally.  This event features live music and authentic Mississippi food. So, if you are in the Atlanta area on June 23, stop in.

In other campus news, it’s finals week on campus, which means the semester is coming to a close. Spring Commencement is Saturday at the Bologna Performing Arts Center at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Graduating students can pick up their admission tickets at the Registrar’s Office from Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. If additional tickets become available, they will be available for pickup at the Registrar’s Office starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 4, on a first-come-first-serve basis.
