The Delta State University Alumni Association recently announced the launch of the Sustaining Life Member Program. The program is a voluntary way for current paid-in-full lifetime members of the Delta State University Alumni Association to provide additional annual support to the Association with a yearly tax-deductible gift of $100. Sustaining Life members will be recognized for their generosity in an issue of Delta State magazine and listed on the Alumni Association’s website. They will also receive a Sustaining Life Member Certificate and a special edition 2013 lapel pin.

“We at the Alumni Association would like all Life Members to strongly consider supporting the Sustaining Life Member Program on an annual basis,” said Jeffrey Farris, Director of Alumni Affairs. “All funds raised will be used strictly for the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni Scholarship, which is given to incoming freshmen and transfer students whose parents are alumni of Delta State University and dues-paying members of the Alumni Association.”

The Hugh Ellis Walker Scholarship is a one-time gift of $500. Over the past five years, 85 students have received the scholarship. With the establishment of the Sustaining Life program, the Alumni Association hopes to double the number of scholarships given each year.

“I joined the Alumni Association as a life member after graduation because I wanted to give back to a University that had provided me with a first class college experience,” said George Miller (’00), Delta State University Alumni Association National Board Member. “I continue to support the Alumni Association on an annual basis as a sustaining life member because I want future generations of Delta State students to have the same opportunity that I was given.”

There are currently over 2,500 Life Members of the Alumni Association. To view the list of life members, visit the Alumni Association’s website www.deltastate.edu/alumni.
