The Delta Music Institute, a music industry studies program at Delta State University, is set to host “SOUND ADVICE: Resources for the Emerging Music Industry Professional,” a weeklong series of audio demonstrations, product reviews, recording sessions, and hands-on mixing workshops, November 12-17 at the Delta Music Institute on the campus of Delta State.
The interactive sessions are designed to offer music industry students and area professionals opportunities to seek advice regarding intellectual property and copyright issues, try out professional audio gear, receive hands-on instruction in creating better audio mixes, and observe a professional recording session from tracking to mastering. There is no admission charge for any of the week’s sessions, but registration is recommended through the DMI office at (662) 846-4579.
Sessions will include topics such as “Audio for Video,” “De-Mystifying the Mix,” “Creating an Efficient Workflow,” “Copyright 101,” “ProTools Tips & Tricks,” and more. Sessions will feature input and direction from four industry professionals in the fields of audio engineering, product development, and music and entertainment law.
Christopher Spahr oversees national market development for the professional market for Sennheiser, and works as an independent producer/engineer. During his 17-year career in the recording arts and installed sound industries, Spahr has performed live sound work for concerts, corporate functions and theater applications. He also worked in the installed sound market as an independent manufacturer’s representative and spent five years as a staff engineer at Criteria Studios in Miami, FL working on music, TV and film projects, including a GRAMMY-winning Latin jazz CD.
Spahr is a certified member of Sennheiser’s U.S. RF Expert program. He holds a Recording Arts Specialized Associates Degree from Full Sail University and a B.S. in Business Administration from Barry University.
Miles Fulwider is a music producer, audio engineer, and musician who fuses art, music and technology in his work. He has audio engineered with some of the top artists, producers, composers, and arrangers in the world from classical, jazz, pop, country, and urban music. Fulwider is a classically trained musician and multi-instrumentalist with performing and touring experience both nationally and internationally. He holds a Master’s Degree in Music – Music Technology from New York University (NYU) including completing the Stephen F. Temmer Tonmeister studies sequence in the Master of Music Technology Program from New York University. He also specializes in research with multi-channel Surround Sound, Ambisonics and B+ Format Audio.
Working in many of the top recording studios and facilities in the country, Fulwider’s recent work and credits span a variety of projects, genres, and records working with such artists as Rob Mathes, Joe Bonadio, Wynton Marsalis, Willie Nelson, Norah Jones, Chick Corea, Kengo Nakamura, Bury Me A Lion, dUg Pinnick (King’s X), The Bihlman Brothers, Cecile Licad, and The Lincoln Symphony Orchestra. He also works with the Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra, XM/Sirius Satellite Radio, and several film scores including working with American documentary filmmaker Ken Burns.
Between graduation from Kentucky Wesleyan College with double majors in Religion/Philosophy and Communications, and before attending law school at the University of Louisville’s Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, music and entertainment attorney Greg Seneff spent nine years in the music and media production industries in various capacities as a booking agent, road manager, disc jockey, concert promoter, retail music buyer, and Assistant Director of Media at Asbury Theological Seminary.
Since graduation from law school, Seneff has served as the Director of Legal Affairs at Benson Music Group, General Counsel for both the Gospel Music Association and Christian Music Trade Association, and as the Director of Business Affairs at EMI Christian Music Group. Representative clients of The Seneff Law Office have included recording artists Jars of Clay, Larry Norman, The Peasall Sisters, Across the Sky, Brother’s Keeper, IIIrd Tyme Out, Dan Peek (formerly of the super group America), Nouveaux, Ruby Amanfu, Sacred Tree, and Shaded Red. Songwriter clients have included Del Gray (of Little Texas), Karen Staley, Tricia Walker, Billy Sprague, Billy Simon, Jim Weber and others. Seneff also represents film and video production companies, independent record labels, publishers, music production companies, animators, book authors, and periodicals.
Seneff is an adjunct instructor at Delta State University and a regular speaker at music industry seminars around the country. He is the producer of MusicLawBiz™ Vol.1, an educational project for artists and songwriters. Greg and his family live in Nashville, Tennessee.
Kentucky native, Mills Logan, is a producer, recording and mix engineer based in Nashville. He is a GRAMMY winner for engineering Ashley Cleveland’s “Before the Daylight’s Shot,” best rock Gospel album of 2007 and has been nominated twice for engineer of the year for the Country Music Association (CMA) in 2008 and 2011. He has worked with award-winning artists Toby Keith, Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift, Sammy Hagar, Lonestar, Sister Hazel, Rascal Flatts, Rodney Carrington, Steve Azar, Collective Soul, and Pat McLaughlin. In October 2011, Logan’s mix of Toby Keith’s single “Made In America” reached number one on all country charts and in September 2012, Logan’s mix of Toby Keith’s “Red Solo Cup” video was nominated for CMA music video of the year.
