Delta States Stephen King to be featured in First Tuesday program

The Delta State University Art Department and the First Tuesday committee will present a special First Tuesday program by Dr. Stephen King on Tuesday, September 25 from 12:10-1:00 p.m. in  the Wright Art Gallery.  The title of the presentation is “Between Jennings and Jones: Jamey Johnson, Hard-Core Country Music, and Outlaw as Authenticating Strategy”.

King has been teaching at Delta State for 17 years and is the coordinator for communication studies and theatre arts program.  He is the author of two books I’m Feeling the Blues Right Now: Blues Tourism and the Mississippi Delta published by the University Press of Mississippi in 2011 and Reggae, Rastafari, and the Rhetoric of Social Control published in  2002.  He has had multiple book chapters and articles published in peer-reviewed communication and interdisciplinary journals and given 44 conference presentations at the international, national, state, and regional level.

First Tuesday is sponsored by the Art Department and the First Tuesday Committee and is scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month during the Fall and Spring semesters from 12:10-1:00 p.m.  First Tuesday features lectures, readings, and presentations representing diverse perspectives in the arts and humanities.   The First Tuesday Programs are free and open to the public.
