CLEVELAND, Miss. — Students and faculty of the geography department of Sam Houston State University, accompanied by a student from the Ohio State University and a faculty member from Townsend University in Maryland, recently spent a week exploring the Delta’s cultural heritage. They visited numerous museums and historic sites, as well as Po’ Monkey’s Lounge in Merigold and Red’s Lounge in Clarksdale. Their tour was organized by Dr. John B. Strait, who has brought his class to the Delta each summer for the last ten years. The Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University helped Strait design his original course, and presented an introduction to the Delta’s heritage to the class.
