Delta State Accounting and CIS students inducted into honor societies

The Accounting Honor Society and the Alpha Iota Mu Computer Information Systems Honor Society in Delta State University’s College of Business recently announced the induction of new members.

The Accounting Honor Society recognizes superior achievement in accounting; promotes, encourages, and maintains academic and professional excellence in accounting; and encourages service in the accounting profession. Five characteristics must be exemplified by each member: academic achievement, professional attitude and conduct, adherence to ethical standards, dedication to service in accounting, and promotion of the accounting profession. The standards are high and are set to include only those accounting majors who have a 3.5 GPA in two or more upper level accounting courses or a 3.2 GPA in four or more upper division accounting courses. Those students must also have achieved at least a 3.2 overall GPA at Delta State.

Four students were inducted into the Accounting Honor Society during the 2011-2012 academic year including Rani Richard of Cleveland, Leanna Reynolds of Charleston, Lisa Smitherman of Grenada, and Cristian Serrano-Garcia of Barcelona, Spain.

Alpha Iota Mu is an international honor society of information systems majors organized to recognize outstanding academic achievement in the field of information systems, provide a forum for academic, professional, and social development, promote high ethical standards, and encourage the growth and integrity of the information systems profession. To be nominated for membership, students must be a declared Computer Information Systems (CIS) major at Delta State, be classified as a junior or senior or graduate student, and have an overall grade point average of at least 3.5.

Christopher Livingston of Tutwiler was inducted into Alpha Iota Mu during the 2011-2012 academic year.
