Delta State University Archives to Host “Connecting Collections: The Mississippi Digital Library”

By April 24, 2012General

The Delta State University Archives and Museum will host “Connecting Collections: The MS Digital Library” workshop on April 30 from 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the second floor reading room.  The free workshop will focus on how small to mid-size repositories with historical materials can participate in the MS Digital Library and will be conducted by Diane DeCeasare Ross, Director of the MS Digital Library and Curator of Manuscripts, Archives & Digital Collections at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Participants are encouraged to bring up to five (max) items from their collections such as a photograph or negative, manuscript, textile or three-dimensional object. By the end of the workshop, participants will have learned the basics of scanning/digitizing these types of materials and will have spent time learning how to create metadata for each item.

The MS Digital Library brings Mississippi to researchers around the world. While the program provides online access to unique materials held in repositories throughout the state, the actual collections remain with each institution. Letters, diaries, photographs, state & organizational records, oral histories, and other primary sources provide first-hand documentation of history and are a sampling of the resources available on the site.

Registration is required to attend this FREE workshop and space is limited. To register, contact Emily Jones at 662.846.4780 or ejones@deltastate.edu

This workshop is made possible by the support from Delta State University Archives & Museum and the Mississippi Delta Preservation Collaborative.
