The Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University recently provided an introduction to the Delta’s rich cultural heritage to two high school classes from Minnesota.  Both Schools, the Jennings Community Learning Center in downtown St. Paul, and Minnesota New Country School in rural Minnesota, offer innovative learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom.  Both are public charter schools open to all students, and both have become model systems that are now being replicated across the nation and internationally.

The students spent a week in the Cleveland area, and also spent time in Memphis before flying back to Minneapolis.  The class was conceived by teacher Hope Grover, who participated in one of the workshops that the Delta Center offers to teachers, and modeled her own class after the workshop itinerary.  The students raised most of the money for their trip through various fund raising efforts.
