The Delta State University National Alumni Association will host the 2012 Bolivar County Alumni Meeting and Crawfish Boil on Thursday, April 12, from 6 – 9 p.m., at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni & Foundation House. The theme for this year’s event is “Bugs, Blues, and BBQ.” Numerous activities including a kids zone, crawfish races, DMI band-Delta Rox, and a silent auction will be available for alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of Delta State to enjoy.
The silent auction will be the primary focus for this year’s gathering. All proceeds raised will go towards the Bolivar County Alumni Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is given annually to incoming freshmen students from Bolivar County that attend Delta State. Over $2000 was raised last year and three $500 scholarships were given out to students from East Side High School, Cleveland High School, and Bayou Academy.
"I encourage all Bolivar County Alumni to attend this meeting,” said Paul Mancini, Bolivar County Chapter President. “We had such a success with our scholarship auction last year that we have decided to make it a part of our meeting every year. The auction allowed us to provide three Bolivar County incoming freshmen students with scholarships. This year we want to also encourage all area high school Junior’s and Senior’s and their parents to come to our meeting and interact with faculty, staff and alumni.”.
“The Bolivar County event is always one of the signature events of the Alumni Association, and we always look forward to a great time. The planning committee has worked very hard, and I hope everyone comes out for the fun,” said John Cox, Past National Alumni Association President.
