Capps Archives to host first Community Chat: Delta Cream Donuts

By July 21, 2011General

On Sunday, May 15, a 47-year Delta tradition came to an end as Delta Cream Donuts closed its doors for the final time.  However, Delta State University Archivist Emily Jones wants to ensure that the tasty tradition is not lost to posterity.

“Although the store front is vacant now, the memories created around a morning table sharing donuts and stories are still alive and keep Delta Cream Donuts vibrant in our sense of local identity,” said Jones.

In order to preserve that identity, Delta State’s Capps Archives will host the first “Community Chat: Delta Cream Donuts” on  Wednesday, July 27 from 9am – 11 a.m. and Thursday, July 28 from 4 – 6 p.m.  Former owners Bob and Beverly Ray Card will be on hand to visit with the public and share memories of Delta Cream Donuts.

“The university archives invites the public to come share some of those stories of morning runs to the donut shop or those special occasions which called for a one of a kind cake,” said Jones.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.  For more information, please contact University Archivist Emily Jones at 662.846.4780.
