Delta State hosting MCEE Summer Institute

Former Director of Delta State’s Center for Economic Development and current Interim Chair of the Department of Economic and Workforce Development at the University of Southern Mississippi Dr. Brent Hales leads the entrepreneurial education workshop during the MCEE Summer Institute hosted by Delta State University.

Throughout the month of June, Delta State University has served as the host site for the Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) Summer Institute.  The institute titled Achieving Demonstrated Economic and Financial Literacy, is offered as collaboration between the Delta State Center for Economic Education and Research, the Mississippi College Center on Economic Education & Development, the Mississippi State Center for Economic Education & Financial Literacy, the Center for Economic & Entrepreneurial Education at the University of Southern Mississippi, the Mississippi Council on Economic Education and the Mississippi Department of Education.

The institute is designed for middle school math teachers to increase their financial readiness skills through economic, financial and entrepreneurial understanding. As a result, teachers can become leaders in their schools to promote the development of economically and financially literate students.This program improves teachers’ abilities to bring financial readiness skills to their students in math, social studies, and language arts curricula.

“We are extremely excited to have Delta State be the host site for this summer institute,” said Dr. Billy Moore, dean of Delta State’s College of Business. “The program has been well-received, and we look forward to future opportunities.”

The Mississippi Council on Economic Education (MCEE) is a non-profit, non-partisan, educational organization founded to promote economic literacy in Mississippi.  The MCEE’s mission is to meet the critical need of insuring that the K-12 schools and teachers in Mississippi provide quality instruction in economics and personal finance to our young people, that is academically sound and non-partisan.  The MCEE provides resources and training to public and private K-12 teachers in Mississippi, empowering educators to teach their students how economics relates to their lives as a worker, citizen and consumer.
