World Renowned trombonist to perform at Delta State University

Ron BarronThe Delta State University Department of Music is proud to announce the visit of world renowned trombonist Ronald Barron, on April 3 – 4, 2011 at the Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC) on the campus.

Barron was principal trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1975 – 2008. He joined the orchestra in 1970 after being a member of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and also served as principal trombonist of the Boston Pops for thirteen seasons.

Barron will be presenting an open master class on Sunday, April 3 from 7 – 9 p.m. in the recital hall inside the BPAC. During the presentation, he will critique student performers as well as share his experiences as a veteran concert and orchestral trombonist.

Baron will return to the recital hall stage again on Monday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m. to perform a solo recital on both tenor and alto trombone. The concert program will feature works by American composers, Ewazen, Alexander, Wolfe, Clarke, and Fillmore. Barron will be assisted on piano by Dr. Kumiko Shimizu, assistant professor of music at Delta State.

Both events are free and open to the public.
