Woodwind Chamber Ensembles to present concert

The Delta State University Department of Music will present the Woodwind Chamber Ensembles in concert featuring the Flute Ensemble and the Saxophone Quartet at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 15, in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center,

The Flute Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Shelley Collins, assistant professor of music at Delta State, will perform “Symphony No. 1” by William Boyce and “Jour d’été à la montagne” by Eugene Bozza.

The Flute QuartetMembers of the quartet include JJ Hatfield of Booneville, Robyn Rouse of Gulfport, Jessica Egdorf of Hernando, and Amanda Corkran of Olive Branch.

The ensemble was recently awarded Honorable Mention in the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Chamber Music Competition and were winners in the 2010 Delta State Chamber Music Competition.

The Saxophone Quartet, under the direction of Dr. Bret Pimentel, assistant professor of music at Delta State, will perform selections from “Prelude and Fugue” by Domenico Scarlatti, “Histoire du Tango” by Astor Piazzolla, and “Three Improvisations” by Phil Woods.

Members of the quartet include Austin White of Vicksburg, Will Bryer of Southaven, David Stafford of Ripley, and Steven Hugley of Vicksburg.

During the past year, the quartet has performed all over the state of Mississippi, and has taken top honors in the Mississippi Music Teachers Association Chamber Music Competition and the Delta State Chamber Music Competition.
