Winners of the Delta State spring Oratorical Contest announced

The winners of the spring Oratorical Contest at Delta State University are Samantha Swafford (at left), a freshman biology major of Cleveland, and Sharon Grose, a sophomore pre-nursing major of Cleveland. Swafford’s presentation entitled “Autism” earned her 1st Place for Informative Speech. Grose’s speech entitled “Reality TV” won her 1st Place for Persuasive Speech.

 

First Place winners received a $150 leadership scholarship and plaque; other presenters received a gift certificate from the bookstore and a certificate of achievement.

 

Judges for the contest were local attorneys John Cox, Helen Morris, and Chris Powell. Lester Fisher, principal of H. M. Nailor Elementary School, presented the keynote address at the contest.

 

The Oratorical Contest is sponsored by Communication Studies and Theatre Arts program and the Division of Languages and Literature at Delta State. This marked the six year anniversary of the Oratorical Contest at Delta State. The event was held in Jacob Conference Center of Ewing Hall on the campus.
