The Delta State University Delta Center for Culture and Learning recently worked with the Tunica Convention and Visitor’s Bureau to provide a day-long Delta heritage tour that included numerous stops throughout Tunica, Coahoma, Bolivar, Sunflower, and Tallahatchie counties.

Highlights included several Mississippi Blues Trail markers, like this one in the New World District of Clarksdale. The tour began at the Tunica Visitor’s Center on Highway 61, the Blues Highway. That Center will soon see construction of a new Blues Museum that will welcome visitors to the north Delta.

“Tunica is the entrance to Blues Highway 61 with nine world class casino resorts and five blues trail markers,” said Anne Coggins, sales manager for the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Coming soon is the Gateway to the Blues Visitor Center in Tunica that will be the first stop in a day trip to explore the Mississippi Delta blues history and a must-see for blues and all music enthusiasts.”

This Blues tour was donated by the Tunica CVB to the silent auction at the Tennessee Meeting Professional International’s gala and silent auction.  Judy and Ken Sadler, from Nashville, Tenn., are the Blues enthusiasts who were excited to be able to take this tour. Judy is director of organizational affairs for the Tennessee Pharmacists Association in Nashville, Tenn.

The Delta Center for Culture and Learning designs and presents heritage tours throughout the entire Delta region promoting the cultural heritage of the Mississippi Delta.
