Delta State University Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band to present concert

The Delta State University Department of Music will present the Delta State Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band in concert at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 22, in the Bologna Performing Arts Center.

 
The Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. John Wojcik will open with “Festivo” by Edward Gregson. The Ensemble will continue with “Sea Songs” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, “Sleep” by Eric Whitacre and “Nitro” by Frank Ticheli.
 
The Wind Ensemble will then bring its portion of the concert to a close with the time honored march “Washington Grays” by Claudio Grafulla, arranged by G. H. Reeves and edited by Frederick Fennell.
 
Following a short intermission, the Jazz Band under the direction of Dr. Paul Hankins will take the stage and open with Michael Mossmans’ “Hour of Darkness” followed by the ever-popular “Basie Straight Ahead” by Sammy Nestico.
 
Third on the program will be “Norwegian Wood” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney in an arrangement by Bill Holman.
 
The Jazz Band will then conclude the concert with Howard Rowe’s “Funkalicious.” A number of Jazz Band members will be featured as soloists throughout the performance.
 
The concert is free and open to the public.
