Delta Chapter of CPA’s Scholarship
A Scholarship awarded to an outstanding undergraduate accounting student.
This scholarship was established to honor the late Dr. John C. Gibson, Dean Emeritus of the College of Business and the late John Yurkow, Jr., Chair Emeritus of the Department of Accountancy. The scholarship is to be awarded to an outstanding incoming freshman demonstrating good character, projecting above-average academic potential, and possessing high scores on the ACT and/or the SAT.
Glenn and Mary Ellen Stafford Holloway Scholarship
The Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior accounting major with CPA potential with preference given to students from Sunflower, Bolivar, Washington, Leflore and Humphreys counties in Mississippi. Endowed by John Holloway, Sr. and Glenn Holloway, Jr.
Johnson Accounting Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students majoring in accounting.
John P. Quon Graduate Accounting Scholarship
A Scholarship awarded to a graduate or undergraduate accounting major. This scholarship was endowed by friends of the late Mr. John Quon, prior chair of Accountancy, Computer Information Systems and Finance.
John Quon Accounting Scholarship
Cash award given to a rising junior or senior accounting major by the family of the late John Quon, prior chair of Accountancy, Computer Information Systems and Finance.
John Yurkow Accounting Fellowship
A fellowship awarded to a graduate or undergraduate accounting major. This fellowship is provided through the John Yurkow Distinguished Professorship Endowment.
JW & AL Tarver Annual Scholarship
This Scholarship is awarded to a full time deserving student from the Greenville School System, whether public, private or parochial, with a preference given to a student majoring in accounting.
Tim Davis-State Bank and Trust Memorial Scholarship
The State Bank and Trust Company Endowed scholarship was established in memory of the bank’s late CFO, for those majoring in Accounting and Finance. It will be awarded to a junior maintaining a 3.0. This Scholarship will be placed in the students’ DSU account split between two semesters. The recipient of this Scholarship is chosen by the College of Business Scholarship Committee.
William Benoit Holloway Scholarship
A Scholarship awarded to a rising junior, senior or graduate accounting student majoring in accounting on the basis of scholarship and character. Endowed by Mr. William Benoit Holloway.
CSPIRE Business Scholarship
The recipients of this scholarship must be a U.S. Citizen and residents of (MS, AL or TN) majoring in Accounting, Marketing, Business Administration, Information/Computer Science, Engineering. The recipients must also have a minimum ACT of 25 and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. The recipients of this Scholarship are chosen by the College of Business Scholarship Committee.
Airport Minority Advisory Co. Scholarship (AMAC)
An academic scholarship awarded to commercial aviation majors who have shown community service and outstanding character. The Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) is one of the largest airport/business trade associations that effectively participate in advocacy outreach, education and other activities on behalf of its members. Its mission is to foster and promote equal opportunity for minorities, women and disadvantaged businesses to participate in aviation-related business, contracting and employment opportunities, while supporting the mission of airports. Full-time students of any major who express interest in working for Air/Aviation related businesses may apply. Application process is coordinated with the Council.
Barn Stormer’s Scholarship
The Barn Stormer’s Scholarship was established by Mr. Jimmy Chrestensen, owner of C & C Aviation, LLC of Cleveland, Mississippi and Mr. Jim Keller, pilot with the Red Baron Acrobatic Team. The scholarship is available to a student majoring in flight operations.
Captain James Ouzts Scholarship
The Captain James F. Ouzts, Sr. Memorial Scholarship was established in 1999 by Mrs. James F. Ouzts, Sr. of Gainesville, Georgia and son, Mr. James F. Ouzts, Jr. of Irvin, California. Captain Ouzts, Sr., a United States army veteran of World War II, enjoyed a 32 year career with Delta Airlines, logging over 29,000 hours. Captain Ouzts, Sr., died on February 22, 1999. The scholarship provides two awards for an undergraduate student majoring in flight operations. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholarship, character and need.
The Captain Keeton Chicken Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to the student in Flight Operations with the highest GPA.
Lt. Col William Hemphill Jr. Scholarship
The Lt. Col William Hemphill Jr. Scholarship was established for student majoring in Commercial Aviation who plans a career as a commercial pilot. Eligible applicants are full-time student in good academic standing in all classification. 2.5 GPS or better.
Elton E. Jay Scholarship
MS Airport Association (who started and funds the scholarship) has been involved in selecting recipients. It was originally the Mississippi Airport Association scholarship, but they requested name change to honor Elton E. Jay.
Fox-Everett Flight Operation Scholarship
The Fox-Everett Flight Scholarship is awarded to a Flight Operations Major and given by Fox-Everett, Inc. of Jackson, MS. This scholarship may be renewed annually to the same student if they remain in good academic standing with the University and the College of Business.
Richardson & Lewis Memorial Aviation Scholarship
The Richardson & Lewis Memorial Aviation Scholarship is an annual Scholarship given in memory of Steve Richardson and Jim Lewis for their love for aviation. It is awarded to an undergraduate student in the Commercial Aviation program who shares the love of aviation exhibited by Steve and Jim. The recipient will be chosen each year by the aviation department chair and will have a 2.0 GPA with an improving trend or higher.
Shivers-Metcalf Commercial Aviation Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 by Bonita Shivers-Metcalf and sons Charles and Robert Metcalf, and will be awarded to a student majoring in flight operations. The student will be a full-time junior or senior maintaining a 3.0 GPA or higher. The scholarship will be applied toward tuition.
SE Airport Managers Association Scholarship
The Southeastern Airport Managers Association Scholarship established in 1992 for Aviation management majors, classified as a junior or above with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 with a 3.0 in their major.
Thomas N. Sledge Prof. Commercial Aviation Scholarship
The Dr. Thomas Nevin Sledge Professor Commercial Aviation Scholarship was established after his death in 2008 for a student majoring in Commercial Aviation. Dr. Sledge served the department of Commercial Aviation for 18 years (1990-2008) with 11 of those years as the department chair.
Faulkner Business/Education Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student from Washington County, Mississippi, whose major is in the College of Business or College of Education, maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship alternates on a two-year cycle between the two colleges. The student shall have an outstanding record of community service and financial need. The scholarship may be renewed for the following year if the recipient remains in good academic standing with the University, the College of Business, and College of Education. This scholarship does NOT automatically renew. The recipient of this Scholarship is chosen by the College of Business Scholarship Committee.
Ada Mitchell Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior “non-traditional” student enrolled in the College of Business or the College of Arts and Sciences. The student must have a 2.75 GPA to be eligible to receive the scholarship and must maintain the GPA in order to continue as the recipient. Preference will be given to students who are in the “middle income” tax bracket as defined by the University’s Financial Aid Office. The goal of the scholarship is to help alleviate the amount of loans a student has to take out in order to complete a college degree. The scholarship may be renewed on a yearly basis if the recipient remains in good standing and is recommended for renewal by the Scholarship Selection Committee.
Cleveland State Bank N.L. “Nap” Cassibry, Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 in memory of the late Mr. Cassibry, who was chairman of the board for Cleveland State Bank and an active business and community leader in Cleveland. Scholarship will be awarded to a Full-time Junior or Senior majoring in Banking and Finance. In the event there are no qualified Banking/Finance majors, the selection committee may award the scholarship to students majoring in other degree programs within the College of Business. This student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75. Preference is to be given to students from Cleveland, MS. Second preference will be students from Bolivar County, MS. The provision calls for two scholarships annually. The recipients of this Scholarship are chosen by the College of Business Scholarship Committee.
George C. Wofford Memorial Scholarship
A Scholarship awarded to rising juniors and seniors business majors with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Endowed by the family of George C. Wofford.
Hayden-Mitchell College of Business Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in January 1999 by Hayden Mitchell, a 1975 honor graduate. This scholarship is available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors majoring in any program in the College of Business.
Land Bank of North Mississippi Scholarship
This endowed Scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate enrolled in the College of Business and must demonstrate academic achievement and community service, be of good moral character and have demonstrated leadership ability. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate financial need, who are children of current stockholders of the Mississippi Land Bank or are children of MLB clients. Preference shall be also given to students who are from the thirty-two counties that Mississippi Land Bank services: Alcorn, Attala, Benton, Bolivar, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Clay, Coahoma, DeSoto, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Lowndes, Marshall, Monroe, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Panola, Ponotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union, Webster, Winston and Yalobusha. This Scholarship will be split between two semesters. The applications for this Scholarship will be collected by the College of Business Scholarship Committee and forwarded to the CEO of the Mississippi Land Bank for Further review.

Awarded to a business student.
Raynold Chiz Memorial Scholarship
In 1986, the family of Raynold Chiz established this scholarship to memorialize the outstanding business and civic contributions made to Shaw by Mr. Chiz. This is an endowment fund, the interest of which is available for a scholarship for a worthy student in the College of Business.
COMPUTER INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by Dr. Jennifer Ziegelmayer and is awarded to an AITP officer who has demonstrated leadership, character, and dedication to the goals of the organization.
Hilton Hotels Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by Hilton Hotel and is awarded to a Computer Information Systems major.
Holiday Inns Scholarship
This scholarship was endowed in 1980 by Holiday Inns to honor six of their staff members who were Delta State Students.
James L. Williams Memorial Business Scholarship
In 1998, the family of James Williams established this scholarship to memorialize the outstanding business and civic contributions made to Cleveland by Mr. Williams. This annual scholarship is presented to African-American juniors or seniors majoring in finance or general business.
The Tom and Joe Beth Janoush Marketing Scholarship
A scholarship awarded to an outstanding junior, senior, full time marketing major who has a strong interest in working with small business entities and demonstrated character and integrity.
Jerry Williams MBA Outstanding MBA Scholarship
The Jerry Williams MBA Outstanding MBA Scholarship is to encourage and promote non-traditional students’ completion of an MBA program of study. The scholarship will be awarded twice a year, at the beginning of the Fall and Spring Semesters. Eligibility for this scholarship is limited to part-time MBA students, who have been fully admitted to the MBA program at Delta State University, who have completed at least six hours in their program of study, and who have a minimum 3.2 GPA. Criteria for selection include academic and leadership abilities, demonstrated financial need, and recommendations.
McDonald’s Retzer and Retzer Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Mike Retzer in honor of Dr. Lawton K. Owens. This is an annual scholarship presented to a junior or senior student majoring in Management and Marketing.
Patrick B. Davis Business Development Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior management or business administration major each semester. Eligible applicants must be a full-time student in good academic standing and possess a 3.0 GPA or better in management or general business courses. The recipient must enroll and complete the requirements for the MGT/GBA 490 internship course during the semester in which they receive the scholarship.
