Our Initiatives

Engagement Escapades

An annual student-centered initiative immersing students in experiential learning focused on civic engagement, advocacy, and cultural and social awareness. Through curated trips and reflective activities, participants develop leadership skills and a critical understanding of social justice and community impact.

Fall Fest

An annual celebration designed to increase experiential involvement by providing students an engaging social experience. This initiative is centered on encouraging emotional well-being and establishing peer networks. The festival features activities such as live music, a bonfire, and vendors to cultivate a conventional campus connection. Fall Fest promotes school spirit, advances social support, and contributes to the comprehensive development and interpersonal growth of students, by encouraging participation across diverse student populations.

OKRA Roundtable

A student-centered initiative designed to strengthen critical thinking, communication, and collaboration through structured discussions and debate circles. Students address diverse perspectives, develop confidence in public speaking, and build essential skills in collegiality, leadership, and problem-solving. The debate circle supports active learning and prepares students to navigate complex issues with clarity and confidence.

Statesmen Spotlight

A publication illuminating the achievements, and experiences of individual students. This initiative aims to advance student engagement by showcasing academic excellence and distinctive personal narratives. These spotlights serve to celebrate student accomplishments, encourage communal engagement, and inspire the broader campus community.

Statesmen Walk

A signature ceremonial tradition and student-centered initiative at Delta State University, established to inspire reflection, connection, and purpose among the campus community. Held during the opening week of the Fall semester and an impactful university event, the Walk is a symbolic procession across campus to honor the collective journey of student leadership, service, and the pursuit of personal and academic excellence. By uniting incoming students, peers, faculty, staff, and alumni, the initiative cultivates a sense of belonging and establishes intentional intergenerational connections, which promote mentorship and peer support. Through guided reflection and narrations from student leaders and university stakeholders, The Statesmen Walk affirms Delta State University’s enduring commitment to legacy, resilience, and the empowering capacity of student engagement.

Take Back the Night

A Sexual Misconduct Awareness Initiative dedicated to raising awareness about sexual misconduct and providing effective interventions to end domestic, relationship, and sexual violence. Through community engagement, educational workshops, and comprehensive support services the initiative empowers students to recognize, prevent, and respond to incidents of sexual misconduct or violence. This program accentuates the university’s unwavering commitment to advocacy and sustaining a campus culture grounded in respect, safety, and support.
