First Tuesday: Echoes of War: Student Voices from World War II
November 1, 2011 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm
The Delta State University Department of Art and DSU Library and Archives will host a First Tuesday program “Echoes of War: Student Voices from World War II”. This collaborative presentation by the University Archives and the Division of Social Sciences and History will be held in the Charles W. Capps Jr. Archives and Museum Building on Tuesday, November 1 from 12:10-1:30 p.m. Reading from letters written during World War II, current students will give a voice to those students who put their college careers on hold in order to serve their country during WWII. The letters are from the Miss Virginia papers held in the University Archives and include those letters written by Miss Virginia Thompson, who served University President Dr. Kethley. Miss Virginia wrote to each student soldier, sharing news of the home front and the student soldiers wrote back to her. In celebration of the Year of the Student, this program provides insight into what being a student-soldier was like as well as little bits of information on the climate on Delta State’s campus during war years.
