Flags at Half-Staff on Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Honor of
National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service
Flags will be half-staff on May 4 from sunrise to sunset
The United States Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to lead a nationwide effort to remember America’s fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the tax-exempt, nonprofit Foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor our fallen fire heroes and assist their families and coworkers.
The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year.
On October 16, 2001, President George W. Bush approved legislation requiring the American flag to be lowered to half-staff on all Federal buildings to memorialize fallen firefighters. Public Law 107-51 requires this action to occur annually in conjunction with observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.
