CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University’s social work program in the Robert E. Smith School of Nursing and Health Sciences will host a virtual Mandated Reporter Training via Zoom on Friday, April 11, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This important educational opportunity is open to the public and designed to enhance awareness and preparedness in identifying and responding to child abuse and neglect.

The cost to attend is $10 for the general public. For social workers seeking 1.5 continuing education credits (CEs) and school counselors earning 0.1 CE, the registration fee is $25.

Participants will learn:

  • Definitions of child abuse and neglect
  • The signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect
  • Risk factors and vulnerable groups
  • How to respond to disclosures of abuse
  • Steps involved in filing a report

This training is especially relevant for professionals and community members who interact with children and youth.

“Understanding the signs of abuse and knowing how to take appropriate action is a vital part of keeping children safe,” said Dr. Loretta Walker, event coordinator and Assistant Professor of Social Work. “This training will equip participants with the tools and confidence to fulfill their role as mandated reporters.”
