Delta State to fly university flag at half-staff in honor of IHL Trustee, Jeanne Luckey

Delta State University mourns the loss of Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning Trustee Jeanne Luckey, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, who passed away on November 7, 2024. She was 63. The University flag will fly at half-staff on Tuesday, November 12, through sunset on Thursday, November 14, in Trustee Luckey’s honor

Trustee Jeanne Luckey was born in Louisville, Mississippi, in 1961.

Trustee Luckey built her life around community and service with her husband of 40 years, Alwyn Luckey. She attended Biloxi public schools and went on to the University of Mississippi, graduating in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. After graduation, she taught teens and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Ocean Springs public schools. She later earned her master’s degree in Special Education at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Trustee Luckey was appointed to the IHL Board of Trustees by then-Governor Phil Bryant in May 2018, for a term to expire May 7, 2027. She was serving as vice president of the IHL Board of Trustees and chair of the ADA/Accessibility Services Task Force, which was created by the Board in August 2023.

Services honoring and remembering Trustee Luckey will be held on Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs, located at 921 Ocean Avenue. Public visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM. There will be a reception in the church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. A family-only graveside burial will take place later this week.
