CLEVELAND, Miss. — The Delta State University School of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is proud to present Britney Hammer in her senior flute recital on Friday, October 18, at 5:00 p.m. The performance will take place in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center on the Delta State campus.
Hammer, a senior music education major from Gulfport, is the daughter of Laura and Wesley Hammer. Under the instruction of Dr. Shelley Collins, professor of music at Delta State University, Hammer has honed her skills in preparation for this culminating event.
Throughout her time at Delta State, Hammer has been an active performer in the DSU Wind Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Marching Band, World Percussion Group, and Symphonic Band. She has also held leadership positions in the Gamma Zeta chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, serving as both president and vice president, and acted as a section leader in the Marching Band. Her dedication to music earned her the prestigious Jeff Ross Capwell Scholarship.
For her senior recital, Hammer will showcase her talent through a diverse program featuring works by contemporary composers Herman Beeftink, Daniel Dorff, John Corigliano, and Ian Clarke.
“The senior recital serves as a capstone project for students majoring in music education. It is the culmination of at least four years of individual practice, weekly flute lessons, rehearsals with collaborating musicians, and researching and writing about each work on the program,” said Collins. “I am proud of Britney’s progress and hard work.”
Hammer will be joined by collaborative pianist Dr. Kumiko Shimizu, Professor of Music. The recital is free and open to the public.
