Delta State to fly university flag at half-staff in honor of Professor Emeritus of History, Dr. Curtis Lamar

The Delta State University flag will fly at half-staff today through sunset on Sunday, April 28, in honor of Professor Emeritus of History, Dr. Quinton Curtis Lamar, of Louisville, Mississippi. Dr. Lamar passed away on April 20, 2024. He was 82

Dr. Lamar taught history at Delta State University for 34 years. While at Delta State, he served as the editor of the Delta Scene Magazine. He served as advisor for the Phi Alpha Theta and Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Societies. For many years, he directed the student overseas travel program for the University. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, the Lions Club, and the Kiwanis Club. Dr. Lamar was a member of the Mississippi Historical Society and the Southern Historical Society.

A funeral Eucharist will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator in McComb, MS, with Father Victor McInnis presiding. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, MS.  Hartman-Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
