
William Ray Wilson, a professor in the Mathematics Department at Delta State University for 44 years, died on Jan. 30, 2019, at his home in Cleveland. He was 88. Delta State will fly its flag at half-staff from Friday, Feb. 1 through Sunday, Feb. 3.
Visitation will be 10-11 AM on Saturday, Feb. 2, at First Baptist Church in Cleveland. A celebration of life service will follow with Rev. James Breland officiating. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery.

He was born on Nov. 5, 1930, to William and Jennie Wilson in Neshoba, Miss. On June 1, 1958, he married Myra Jo in Mendanhall. He was a professor in the Mathematics Department at Delta State for 44 years before retiring. During his time at Delta State, he received the first S. E. Kossman Outstanding Teacher Award, the Lawrence L. Stewart Athletic Alumni Association Outstanding Service Award, and the Distinguished Statesmen Award. He loved to teach and visit with his family and friends.
Wilson is preceded in death by his wife and parents. Ray is survived by his son, William Andrew Wilson of Olive Branch; daughter-in-law, Amy Wilson of Olive Branch; sister-in-law, Maxine Walker; and grandchildren, Carley Douglas of Cleveland, Clint Wilson of Jonesboro, Ark., Curt Wilson of Olive Branch, and Easton Wilson of Olive Branch.
Memorials may be made to the Ray and Jo Wilson Scholarship at Delta State or First Baptist Church in Cleveland.
