Delta State University to resume normal operations on Monday

By January 27, 2026Severe Weather

CLEVELAND, Miss. —Delta State University will return to normal campus operations on Monday, following extended closures and the suspension of all class formats and mediums caused by the recent ice storm. Faculty, advisors, and the Student Success Center staff continue to work with students to facilitate the return to classes and the completion of assignments, which are granted extended deadlines. At any time, please feel free to reach out to the advising office at advising@deltastate.edu.

The campus will remain closed through Sunday, with university leadership continuing to monitor conditions and complete recovery efforts, while ensuring the safety of students in residence halls and essential staff that are working. As weather and safety conditions permit, the university hopes to allow a limited resumption of services by Thursday, including expanded cafeteria hours.

Facilities Management crews are actively clearing and treating pedestrian pathways between the residence halls, cafeteria, H.L. Nowell Union, and the Forest E. Wyatt Center. To continue supporting students on campus, The Statesman Shelf Food Pantry will be open Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Follow The Shelf’s Instagram account, @thestatesmansshelf, for more information on openings and stocking information. Additionally, the Forest E. Wyatt Center will be open to any student or staff between the hours of Noon and 4 pm, through Saturday. The Gymnasium and Fitness Center will be open; the Ronald G. Mayers Aquatic Center will only be accessible to swimming and diving team members.

Friday night’s performance of Meredith Wilson’s The Music Man at the Bologna Performing Arts Center has been cancelled. Thursday and Saturday’s basketball games will take place at Walter Sillers Coliseum as scheduled. For complete Athletic Department schedule information, visit gostatesmen.com.

While progress has been made, some areas of campus remain icy, and members of the campus community are urged to use caution when traveling on foot. Power across campus continues to hold well, and essential services remain operational.

Students who left campus prior to the storm’s arrival are encouraged not to return to campus any earlier than Saturday. This will allow emergency services and essential workers more time on the roads to help those in greatest need, as well as the roads to become safer for travel as the temperatures rise the next few days across the state.

Delta State University appreciates the patience, flexibility, and cooperation of the campus community and looks forward to welcoming students, faculty, and staff back to campus under normal operations on Monday.
