CLEVELAND, Miss. — Delta State University will reopen its campus and, as much as possible, return to normal operations on Monday, February 2 following disruptions caused by the recent ice storm. While conditions have continued to improve, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to continue prioritizing personal safety as lingering impacts from the storm remain possible.
All classes remain fully paused until Monday. Faculty have been directed to accommodate any students experiencing ongoing connectivity, transportation or other storm-related challenges as classes resume. Students should communicate with faculty directly if they are experiencing continued travel/communication difficulties regarding courses. Scheduling issues should be addressed through the Advising Center (advising@deltastate.edu.) The Student Success Center is working continuously to facilitate the smooth transition back to classes and campus operations. Continue to monitor Canvas for updates and announcements.
To support a successful transition back to campus and ensure our students have sufficient time to finalize their spring semester enrollment, we have implemented the following adjustments:
- Add/Drop Extension: The deadline for adding or dropping courses has been extended to Tuesday, February 3rd.
- Course Cancellation: The class cancellation process will now be conducted on Wednesday, February 4th, at 5 pm.
We are committed to the academic continuity for our students and the operational support of our faculty and staff. These extensions are intended to provide the necessary flexibility for all parties to coordinate effectively after the missed instructional days.
Dining services will continue to be available as campus activity ramps up. The cafeteria and the Statesman Shelf food pantry will be open tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, the cafeteria will resume its normal schedule on Sunday, with brunch and dinner service available to any Delta State student, faculty, or staff member, regardless of meal plan status.
Facilities Management crews have made significant progress across campus, though some areas will still be slick. Members of the campus community are urged to remain cautious when traveling on foot or by vehicle. Falling ice from buildings and trees will continue to cause danger; extreme caution should be used when walking into buildings. Do not park vehicles under any trees that have hanging limbs.
In athletics, the opening series of the baseball season scheduled for this weekend has been postponed due to storm impacts. Updated scheduling information will be posted on the Delta State Athletics website at gostatesmen.com. Basketball will host the University of Montevallo as scheduled on Saturday, with games beginning at 2 p.m.
University leadership will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to stay connected through official university communication channels.

Delta State University appreciates the patience, flexibility, and resilience of the campus community and looks forward to a safe return to normal operations on Monday.
