The Division of Counselor Education and Psychology at Delta State University recently announced the new members of the Delta Sigma Upsilon chapter of Chi Sigma Iota (CSI) International Honor Society during its annual fall initiation ceremony via Zoom on Sept. 1.
Dr. Mary Bess Pannel, chapter faculty advisor, stated, “The pandemic could not stop this year’s initiation ceremony celebration. Though it was delivered in a different format, we were able to highlight the accomplishments of our students by incorporating creative technological measures.”
CSI, the international honor society of professional counseling, provides members with professional growth and networking opportunities. Members participate in counseling and social justice related activities within the university and through community outreach. Notable events include veteran appreciation activities, a college-wide blanket drive, and annual trips to the Mississippi State Counseling Association (MCA) conference and Day at the State Capitol to advocate for the counseling profession.
The honor society was established in 1985 through the efforts of leaders in the profession of counseling whose desire was to provide recognition for outstanding achievement as well as outstanding service within the profession. CSI was created for counselors-in-training, counselor educators, and professional counselors whose career commitment is to research and serve through professional counseling.
