Easton Selby, the artist, speaking at the opening reception on 13 August. He is directing a response to Dr. John Strait of Sam Houston State University. Dr. Strait’s research was the premise for the collaborative project, “Photographic Interpretations: The Geography & Culture of the MS Delta Blues,” of which BluesLand is a part. Delta State’s Department of Art, Roberts-LaForge Library and the Capps Archives will host a First Tuesday program entitled “BluesLand” by Easton Selby on Nov. 7 from 12:10-1:00 p.m. in the Charles W. Capps, Jr. Archives Building. The presentation will highlight his photographic exploration of the land and the culture that is the Mississippi Delta which has produced many of our Delta Blues artists.
“BluesLand” is part of a larger body of work entitled “Photographic Interpretations: The Culture & Geography of the Delta Blues,” which was a collaborative documentary between Selby, photographers Armon Mean and Josh Vincent and historian Dr. John Strait of Sam Houston State University.
Selby received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Delta State and completed his Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts at Clemson University. He currently teaches photography at Coastal Carolina University.
The First Tuesday programs are free and open to the public. Those attending may bring a brown bag lunch. Coffee will be provided.
First Tuesday is sponsored by the Art Department and the First Tuesday Committee. Normally scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month during fall and spring semesters, the program features lectures, readings and presentations representing diverse perspectives in the arts and humanities.
