The Mississippi Delta National Heritage Area recently held a series of committee meetings in the Alumni House on the Delta State Campus. Consultants from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and members of the Heritage Area Board of Directors met with community members to begin a discussion of how the Heritage Area should be developed.
The planning process is mandated under federal law, and will include a series of public meetings that will be held throughout the Delta. The Delta Center for Culture and Learning is the current manager of the Heritage Area, which is a link between the eighteen counties of the Delta and the National Park Service. The goal of the Heritage Area is to promote the Delta’s rich natural and cultural heritage in ways that benefit its citizens.
